Privacy Policy

Last updated: August 5, 2026

Your quit history, journals, cravings, reasons, slips, savings information, reminders, and private audio stay on your device. We do not operate an account system or receive this journey data.

Who we are

Not Today is published by Nikhil Nelson, a sole proprietor in Kerala, India, trading as Streamline (GSTIN 32CDAPN1142D1ZC). Nikhil Nelson is the person responsible for how the app handles your information. Our principal place of business, Grievance Officer, and response timelines are on the Contact & Grievance Redressal page. Privacy questions can be sent to founder@nikhilnelson.com.

Scope and intended audience

This policy applies to the Not Today Android app and these support pages. The app is intended only for adults aged 18 and over.

Information stored only on your device

The app stores your onboarding answers, quit attempts, streak history, cravings and triggers, rescue outcomes, slips, completed journey activities, journal entries, quit reasons, savings inputs and goals, preferences, reminders, and purchase entitlement locally in app-private storage. We do not provide accounts, cloud sync, or a server that receives this information.

Microphone and private audio

If you choose to record a future-self message, the app requests microphone access. Recordings remain in app-private storage and are not uploaded by us. You may deny microphone access and use the app without audio, or delete a recording inside the app.

Notifications

If you opt in, Not Today schedules reminders and savings-goal notifications locally on your device. Android controls notification permission and delivery. Notification content is generated locally and is not used for remote monitoring.

PDF export and sharing

You can create a progress PDF on your device. It includes summary progress such as quit dates, streak, lifetime totals, savings, cravings handled, and journey days. It excludes your quit reason, journal entries, craving triggers, slip notes, and audio. A PDF leaves the app only when you choose a destination through Android's share interface; that destination's privacy practices then apply.

Advertising and consent

The free version uses Google Mobile Ads in limited, non-sensitive locations. Where required, Google's consent interface is shown before an ad request, and privacy choices can be reopened from Settings. Depending on your consent and regional requirements, Google Mobile Ads may automatically collect or share IP-derived approximate location, app interactions, diagnostics, and device or account identifiers for advertising, analytics, and fraud prevention. This data is processed by Google under its own terms and policies. Not Today does not send your quit history, journals, craving details, reasons, slips, or audio to the advertising SDK.

Purchases

The optional “Remove ads forever” purchase is processed by Google Play. Google handles payment details and provides the app with purchase status needed to grant or restore the entitlement. We do not receive your full payment-card details. Billing questions are covered on the Refunds & Cancellations page.

This website

These policy and support pages are static files hosted on GitHub Pages. We run no analytics, no advertising, and no cookies of our own on them. As with any web server, GitHub receives your IP address, browser user agent, and the page you requested in order to deliver the site and protect it against abuse; that processing is governed by GitHub's Privacy Statement. The app does not load these pages in the background — they open in your browser only when you tap a link.

Data retention and deletion

Local data remains until you delete individual items, use Settings → Erase all app data → Erase permanently, clear the app's storage in Android Settings, or uninstall the app. Because there is no cloud account or developer-held journey record, we cannot retrieve or restore this data. See the Data Deletion page.

Your rights

Because Not Today has no account and no server-held copy of your journey, most rights are exercised directly on your device, and they take effect immediately:

Where your local law gives you further rights — for example under India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023, including the right to nominate another person to exercise your rights — you may exercise them by writing to founder@nikhilnelson.com. We will tell you plainly what we do and do not hold. For advertising and Google Play purchase data, you will also need Google's own account controls, because that data sits with Google rather than with us.

If you are in the EEA, the UK, or Switzerland

Not Today is available worldwide, so the EU GDPR, the UK GDPR, and the Swiss FADP apply to people using it in those regions. The controller is Nikhil Nelson, sole proprietor trading as Streamline, at the address on the Contact page.

What we rely on to process your data

Almost nothing reaches us. The processing that does happen is limited to the following.

Advertising identifiers and ad-request data
Processed by Google Mobile Ads on the basis of your consent, collected through Google's consent interface before any ad request. You can change or withdraw it at any time in Settings → Ad privacy choices. Withdrawing consent does not affect processing that already happened.
Your “Remove ads forever” purchase
Processed by Google Play as necessary to perform the contract for the entitlement you bought.
Email you send us
Processed to answer you — on the basis of performance of a contract or, for general questions, our legitimate interest in running a supported product. We keep support correspondence only as long as needed to resolve the matter and to keep a record of purchase disputes.
Requests to this website
Server logs kept by GitHub on the basis of our legitimate interest in delivering these pages and protecting them from abuse.

Your quit history, journals, cravings, reasons, slips, savings data, reminders, and audio never leave your device, so we have no legal basis to declare for them — we do not process them at all. That includes anything about your health.

Who receives data

Google (advertising and Google Play billing) and GitHub (hosting these pages). We do not sell personal data, we do not share it with data brokers, and we carry out no automated decision-making or profiling that produces legal or similarly significant effects on you.

International transfers

We are based in India, which is not covered by an EU or UK adequacy decision. If you email us, that correspondence reaches India; for that limited purpose we rely on Article 49(1)(b) of the GDPR, because the transfer is necessary to answer the request you made. Advertising and purchase data is transferred by Google under Google's own transfer mechanisms, described in Google's Privacy Policy, not by us.

Your rights in these regions

In addition to the rights listed above, you have the right to object to processing based on legitimate interests, the right to restrict processing, the right to data portability, and the right to withdraw consent at any time. Most of these you can exercise on your device immediately; for the rest, write to founder@nikhilnelson.com and we will respond within one month.

You also have the right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority. In the EEA, find yours through the European Data Protection Board. In the UK, contact the Information Commissioner's Office. In Switzerland, contact the Federal Data Protection and Information Commissioner.

If you are in the United States

Not Today is a small independent app and does not meet the revenue or volume thresholds that trigger the California Consumer Privacy Act or the comparable state privacy laws. We do not sell your personal information. Advertising identifiers handled by Google may amount to “sharing” for cross-context behavioural advertising under those laws; you can turn this off in Settings → Ad privacy choices and through Google's own ad settings.

Children's privacy

Not Today is not directed to children and must not be used by anyone under 18. We do not knowingly collect children's personal information.

Security

Journey data is kept in Android app-private storage, which is protected by the operating system. No storage method is completely risk-free. Keep your device and screen lock secure, and take care when sharing exported PDFs.

International use

The app may be used in different countries. We are based in India, and any information you send us by email is received there. Google may process advertising and purchase data in locations described in its own policies. Health resources and emergency numbers vary by location; use reliable local services.

Changes to this policy

We may revise this policy when the app or legal requirements change. The updated date will be shown here. Material changes will be reflected in the app or store listing where appropriate.
